Rosemarie Marriott’s solo exhibition Kinderkamer opens on 25 May 2022 at Henry George Gallery, 2 Bompas Road, Dunkeld West, Johannesburg.

Rosemarie’s canvasses seem to blister, her printmaking embodies that which gets left behind, with her ceramics seeing beloved nursery rhyme characters brought affectingly to life. The artist’s dextrous technique is as much a part of the storytelling as are the associations drawn by the viewer to the nostalgic subject matter.

For Rosemarie, making art is a process of exploration. This process includes different techniques and materials – such as sculpting with animal remains, printmaking, drawing, painting and ceramics – all evidence her rich narratives. Marriott states, “Living in a violent society, and in particular the abuse of women and children, undeniably has an influence on my work too.”

Rosemarie Marriott studied at Wits University and worked under the guidance and criticism of exceptional artists such as the late Peter Schutz, Dr Walter Oltmann and the late Prof . Alan Crump. More recently also under the tutelage of Rickey Burnett.
